It is been a rough few years for Simon Cowell, but he is now confirmed what we all suspected about his son
Over the past two years, Simon Cowell has endured two serious bicycle accidents, both of which brought significant health challenges. Recently, he joined his fellow America’s Got Talent judges—Howie Mandel, Terry Crews, and Heidi Klum—on the Today Show and openly discussed these incidents.
The 64-year-old TV personality first encountered an e-bike accident in Malibu in 2020, followed by a similar one in London in early 2022. In a promo video for America’s Got Talent’s 18th season, Simon was asked how these experiences changed his outlook. Reflecting on the mishaps, he admitted, “I wasn’t in great shape beforehand, so the accidents were a rude awakening.” The recovery process made him realize just how out of shape he had been.
“It was like a ‘god’ moment,” he said, expressing how the accidents had forced him to slow down. Despite everything, he was clear about one thing: “I’m not giving up on my bike,” he declared to the amusement of his fellow judges, highlighting his appreciation for cycling.
Simon’s second accident left him hospitalized with a concussion and a broken arm. Though less severe than the first, which resulted in a broken back and metal rods to support his spine, the injury still required a wrist brace for months. Determined to be there for his nine-year-old son, Eric, he made major lifestyle changes. His fiancée, Lauren Silverman, was a vital source of support throughout his recovery.
In an interview with The Sun last April, Simon spoke about the emotional toll of his back injury. “I was in such a dark place that, for the first time, I considered going to therapy,” he shared, reflecting on the struggle to be active with Eric while recovering.
Simon and Lauren welcomed Eric on February 14, 2014, and his bond with his son fueled his determination to heal. With a grin, Simon revealed that Eric gave him a new nickname after seeing him with the metal rods in his back: “Dad, you look like Iron Man,” Eric said, to which Simon responded with a proud smile, “Yes, I really am like Iron Man.”
Despite these setbacks, Simon has kept his sense of humor. During a 2021 AGT episode, Terry Crews asked if Simon could see himself performing stunts like the Shaolin Kung Fu act. With a laugh, Simon replied, “After my back injury, just walking around the garden with Eric felt like a big feat. Sometimes I even thought, ‘Maybe this isn’t the best idea.’”
Simon’s journey reflects resilience and humor. Though the accidents were tough, he remains undeterred, finding joy in life, cycling, and his role as a father.
